KURSAVE QUALIFIES FOR STATE

Arcadia/Loup City will officially be represented at Nebraska’s first girls-only state wrestling tournament.

On Saturday, the Rebels’ Rylee Kursave punched her ticket to next week’s state meet with a second-place finish. Kursave, a junior, won three straight matches at the District B-1 Tournament held at Ord High School.

The Rebel opened the tournament with a twenty- two-second victory over Bailey Manka of Doniphan- Trumbull. Then, in the quarterfinals, Kursave pinned Desiree Cleveland of Red Cloud/Blue Hill in eighteen seconds. That victory, the junior’s thirty- sixth this season, paved the way for her to face Belle Brodersen of Boone Central in the semifinals.

The Rebel needed just thirty seconds to lock up the Cardinal.

In the finals at 170-pounds, Kursave went toe-to-toe with Catalina Jones of Louisville, but the Lion came out on top. Jones pinned the Rebel in the second period, leaving Arcadia/Loup City’s lone state qualifier sitting in second place.

Joining Kursave on the mats at Ord High School was Amie Ross.

Ross, who competed at 115-pounds last week, lost both of her matches. The Rebel was pinned by Leynn Luna of Boone Central and then was locked up by Cailey Klein of Red Cloud/Blue Hill. Those two matches lasted ninety and ninety-three seconds, respectively.

This year’s NSAA State Girls Wrestling Championships are scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday in Omaha.
