We have had a research request for an obituary of Michalina Turek, who died in 1918 at the age of forty-two.
Our family files at the Research Center did not have any information on her. In particular, the person is asking for an obituary. Can anyone help?
Do you know what we have for genealogy resources at the Research Center? We have several family history albums—but certainly not all. (We are always looking to add more to our collection.) We have several ring binders with news articles from the past (and most of these have been cataloged). We have numerous photos that have been digitized (but, unfortunately, many are not identified), including several vintage store and street photos from Sherman County towns/villages. We have several archival boxes of past newspapers and archival boxes of vintage family bibles. We have some older plat maps for looking up land ownership; we have a printed list of Sherman County Homestead Applications, a printed list of Civil War veterans, a printed copy of the American Legion Auxiliary charter members, three binders of photos and stories from Helen Zwink, and MORE! We also have postcards, a few gift shop items, and most of our publications available for purchase at the Research Center. I almost forgot to mention the rural school record books, the yearbooks, organizational scrapbooks that we have on our shelves. Maybe you need to stop by Wednesday afternoon and check us out! You do know that Hanshew’s Barbershop Museum is on the west side of the Research Center, don’t you? This section displays many vintage barber tools, a shoeshine chair, a vintage claw-leg bathtub, several vintage photos, etc. Some of the geraniums in the front window came from Harold Hanshew. The vintage barber chairs are a treat to see again, too.
