Presentation focuses on Kano

LOUP CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY

JIM FRIESEN AND VICKIE SAKURADA SCHAEPLER of the Japanese Heritage Center gave a presentation last week at the Loup City Library on Hiram Kano, a past resident of Sherman County and a man who was interned during WWII due to his connections to high-level Japanese government officials. Kano had used his times in the camps to proselytize for Christianity and to provide support and hope to those struggling with bitterness. Kano and his family farmed near Litchfield. Friesen would like to see Kano memorialized as a noteworthy citizen of Sherman County with a historical marker in the area. Seventeen people attended the May 8th presentation.
