It was a weekend of near misses for the Arcadia/Loup City Rebels at Omaha Burke Stadium, but even with a series of close calls, the Rebels still didn’t return to Sherman County empty-handed.
Last week, five members of the Arcadia/ Loup City track team competed at the NSAA Class C State Track and Field Championships in Omaha. Headlining the Rebels’ performance at the state meet was a sixth-place finish in the boys’ 100-meter dash by Tyce Calleroz.
The junior headed into Saturday’s finals with the seventh-fastest time in the eight-runner field. Calleroz had clocked in at 11.07 during Friday’s prelims to punch his ticket to the finals’ race. On Saturday, despite meet officials making the decision to run the race into a headwind, Calleroz hit the finish line in 11.41 to secure sixth place.
