WEEKEND EVENT TO RECOGNIZE VETERANS

Loup City will once again honor its local heroes when the community hosts its sixth annual Servicemen of the Heartland event this week. The weekend celebration, organized by the nonprofit Servicemen of the Heartland Outdoors, will recognize more than forty current and former members of the military for their service and sacrifice.

Founded through a collaboration between local citizens and the Sons of the American Legion Squadron Post 48, Servicemen of the Heartland Outdoors provides veterans and active-duty personnel with guided outdoor experiences—including fishing, golfing, and hunting—throughout the Sherman County area. The program aims to foster camaraderie, healing, and appreciation through time spent in Nebraska’s great outdoors.

This year’s Servicemen of the Heartland event will feature special guests from Bravo Zulu Adventure Group of Nebraska, a fellow nonprofit that honors military service through patriotic demonstrations. Weather permitting, members of the group will perform two skydiving jumps—one on Friday and one on Saturday— each concluding with a dramatic descent while carrying the American flag.
