Mercy and compassion
How exceedingly great is the mercy and compassion of the Lord! However sinful you are, whatever you did, there is hope for you. Hear the voice of the Lord himself to you now: “Come now.” The Lord did not say: “Go away into everlasting fire.” He could have done that. We, and the people to whom Isaiah prophesied, deserved that. When the Holy Spirit shows us the reality of our sinful nature and life, there is no hope in ourselves. The provocations against the Lord were terrible.
He compares them with Sodom and Gomorrah. He condemns their vain religion and their empty prayers. Their whole life is in ruins. And are we better? No!
