Celebrating important voices, past and present

Back in the day, or at least back in my day—that day is getting further and further behind me at a pretty rapid clip—if you recovered a fumble, recorded a tackle, or scored a touchdown for the Palmer Tigers on a Friday night in the fall, your accomplishment was duly noted by Terry Ramold and his sidekicks in the crows’ nest.

If things got really wild during the game, then Ramold would let the fans know by proudly proclaiming “The chicken is out of the coop!” That proclamation was always followed by the throwing of a rubber chicken.

While those are some of the familiar sights and sounds of high school football from my less-than-notable playing days, I doubt that I am the only one that remembers the quirks and memorable speech patterns and celebrations of those men and women who provided the public address voices for our prep careers.
