The Sherman County Historical Museum recently received a request for information about Peter Moritz. Peter was born in Germany on August 22, 1836, and came to the United States when he was sixteen years old in 1852. He first lived in Pennsylvania, then later in Wisconsin, followed by years in St Louis, Missouri. While in St. Louis he was a boatman on the Mississippi River. His obituary from The Ravenna News, August 5, 1904 issue, reads “He made innumerable trips to New Orleans and above St. Louis up the Missouri river(sic) to Omaha and above. In those days he saw Omaha when it was but a frontier trading point.”
