After an overall “average” spring and summer in 2024 and a dry winter, heavy rains throughout much of the Loup River system this season have been a welcome reprieve.
“We are in a lot better position than where we were a year ago,” said Lower Loup Natural Resources District (LLNRD) Assistant General Manager Tylr Naprstek last week.
Last year’s precipitation, although average in the grand scheme, had marked a departure from the years of drought that had preceded it. May 2024, Naprstek said last August, had been the first time in more than three years in which there were no drought conditions anywhere in the natural resources district. Still, he had said, the system’s situation could “turn in a hurry.”
