If you are required to take a distribution from your IRA yet this year, you should visit with your tax preparer and/ or IRA trustee if you are interested in donating part or all your required minimum distribution (RMD) to a qualified nonprofit organization.
The IRA donation needs to be properly structured so that the donor does not have to pay income tax on the donation, but the distribution could still qualify as part of the RMD.
