Girls dramatic club orgnized in Loup City in 1922

SHERMAN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Several area towns had a Dramatic Club in 1922—Ord, Arcadia, and Pleasanton. Soon Loup City also had a Girls Dramatic Club, organized in 1922, under the auspices of the Unity Club. Besides providing entertainment, the thirteen-member group raised money for community projects.

Their first comedy, a three-act play, was titled “Breezy Point” and was held at the Liberty Theatre on a Wednesday evening in November. The theatre was packed for the first production of the club. Mrs. H. M. Mathew directed the play and Prof. F. D. Schneider’s orchestra furnished the music. Admission was fifty cents and thirty-five cents. About $135 (about $2,500 today) was cleared and donated to the Loup City Library to purchase books.
