Shawn Kitzing was awarded the EMT of the Year plaque at the Nebraska Emergency Medical Association Winter Conference held at Kearney. His letter of nomination noted he was at three-fourths of all calls this past year. Kitzing is pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. Carrie Schwaderer was awarded the Hero of the Year plaque at the conference. This is the tenth anniversary of her donating a kidney to a gravely ill boy who needed it to survive.
