SHERMAN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Even though our snow has long been gone, 1936 was a different story. Speaking of stories, how about this one from the Litchfield Monitor of February 21, 1936: “upon returning from the Sherman county(sic) basketball tournament at Loup City, Friday evening Feb. 14, Mr. W. F. Wolcott had the misfortune of turning his car over.
“Mr. Wolcott had his car quite heavily loaded with a part of the Litchfield basketball team, and as they were descending a hill on the Wiggle Creek road, south of Loup City, there appeared a car parked square’y in the center of the road. The driver saw immediately that it was a choice of either hitting the parked car or a large snow bank off of the road. The later( sic) being the choice, no damage or injury was sustained by the occupants of the car.
