Hunting for candy, finding a lot of change

For the second time this week, while proofreading the pages of one of our newspapers, I was reminded of a more unique Easter tradition that my cousins and I participated in.

A tradition that, back in the day, left our pockets jingling.

When I was a kid, my mother’s family celebrated Easter with a Bohemian flair. The food had a slight taste of the old country, and the desserts were a thing of beauty. However, for us youngsters, one of the best parts of the celebration was the annual egg hunt. As a kid who bought his pants in the husky section of the store, I loved the traditional Easter candy. But, for those particular holiday get-togethers, there was always a chance that, when you found an egg, it would have an extra special surprise in it.
