Weather can lead to downed power lines

Severe weather can bring with it many hazards, including the danger of downed power lines.

Severe storms with strong straight-line winds or tornadoes can damage power poles and lines, causing them to break. Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) wants customers to be aware of the dangers downed lines may pose.

“This time of year, brings unexpected weather in Nebraska, so it’s important to be conscious of storm damage, especially involving power lines,” said Nebraska Public Power District Distribution Manager Trevor Roth. “If someone encounters a damaged line, they should maintain their distance and avoid approaching or driving over the damaged line. If the line is still energized, it can also charge the ground around it, and approaching the line could result in someone getting injured.”
