Tie your shoes and go vote

In January, when I had the opportunity to join members of the Nebraska Press Association for breakfast at the governor’s mansion, one of my older brothers gave me two pieces of advice: make sure your shoes are tied and don’t spill any food on your shirt.

While I should have chided him for being unsupportive of his little brother, it turns out he does know me pretty well.

When I cut into a piece of breakfast sausage while speaking with a state senator and half of it went flying across the room, I knew I had likely let my brother down. Thankfully, the senator from southeast Nebraska didn’t miss a beat during our conversation.
