Born on January 1, 1931, in Ashton, Marian was the youngest of eleven children and the last surviving sibling. Her father died when she was three years old. She grew up on a farm and attended a oneroom schoolhouse, later boarding with nuns for two years before graduating from Ashton High School.

In 1950, Marian married Robert Maschka and moved to Colorado, where they raised five children together.

Marian had a strong work ethic, and prioritized work throughout her life.

In a dual-income household, Marian was a faithful family provider— a role she carried with pride and commitment.

Marian began her career at Samsonite Luggage Company and Montgomery Ward, eventually working thirty years for Gates Rubber Company, earning a perfect attendance award for her dedication and service.

Later, she worked for McFaren Distribution Services and spent a decade with Costco’s demonstration services, retiring at the remarkable age of eighty.

Marian was widowed in 1991 and went on to manage her home with independence for the next thirty years.

She faced profound sorrow with the death of her daughter Beverly in 2013. She met this challenge with inner courage and grace. Marian spoke of Bev often.

Marian was a proud and devout member of Holy Name Catholic Church for over fifty years, attending Mass weekly. She was also an active member of VFW Post 9644, serving as Americanism Chairwoman for twenty years. A steadfast Denver Broncos fan, she held season tickets for several years and cheered passionately for her team.

Marian enjoyed a rich, fulfilling life. A highlight she often recalled with joy was backpacking to Phantom Ranch in the Grand Canyon. She considered it one of the most meaningful experiences of her life and loved to relive the journey by sharing stories and flipping through a scrapbook with anyone willing to listen.

In her leisure time, Marian tried new activities like golf and cross-country skiing, and loved listening to polka and country music, and songs by the Eagles. She visited her hometown for family reunions and kept in touch with extended family in the Nebraska area.

Marian created the family’s cherished tradition of “FAC” (Friday Afternoon Club), where she delighted in sharing a glass of wine or a beer and good conversation.

She found great joy in recalling old memories, telling stories, and laughing with her children and grandchildren. She was so proud of their many accomplishments.

She was quietly supportive of each of her children in ways that were both meaningful and enduring.

As their lives developed in different cities, Marian attended and celebrated their life events when possible and shared in their joys and sorrows.

Marian moved to St. Louis in 2020 to live with her daughter Barb and her wife, Michele. She was embraced by Michele’s Italian family and blended easily into their active lives. She lived a happy and pampered life with them.

In 2024, Marian moved to the Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, where she quickly charmed the staff with her wit and humor. She formed new friendships and was loved by those who cared for her.

Barb and Michele visited daily, always close by and ready to offer support whenever needed.

Marian passed away peacefully in her sleep. She often said she hoped heaven would be “far out”—one of her favorite expressions, now carried forward with love and a smile.

Marian is survived by her children: Terry Maschka (Cindi), Mary Geer (Mike), Jerry Maschka (Jennifer), and Barb Maschka (Michele). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nick Maschka, Kim Metcalf, Rebeccah Sweeney, and Ryan Geer and her great-grandchildren, Ian Metcalf, Haley Metcalf, Cash Geer, Mason Ross, Carson Ross, Hudson Sweeney and Cori Sweeney.

Marian’s remains will be interred with her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

A private celebration of life is planned.
