Carolyn J. Sekutera, 82, of Loup City, died peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Tabitha at Prairie Commons Hospice Home in Grand Island. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City, with Father Richard Piontkowski officiating.

Pallbearers included Jace Sekutera, Dax Sekutera, Kim Sekutera, Ed Elsner, Ryan Elsner, and Ty Elsner.

Interment followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. A light lunch was served at St.

Josaphat’s Parish Hall following the interment.

Memorials are suggested to the Sekutera family for later designation. Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Condolences for Carolyn’s family can be left at higginsfuneralhomelc. com.

Carolyn Jean Sekutera was born October 13, 1943, in St. Paul, the daughter of Edward and Sylvia (Seeber) Lemburg. She grew up in the Boelus/Ashton area graduating from Ashton High School in May of 1962.

Carolyn was united in marriage to Thomas D. Sekutera on June 23, 1962 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. The couple lived in Loup City their entire lives where they raised their son, Scott.

Carolyn worked at the Sherman County Courthouse just shy of fifty years. In July 1962 she started work in the clerk’s office. In that same year, she was appointed deputy clerk where she worked until 1965. Then she became the county clerk and worked there until 1967 when she became the deputy assessor. Carolyn became the county assessor in 1991 until her retirement in February of 2012.

Carolyn loved serving the people of Loup City and Sherman County.

She also enjoyed fishing, bingo, puzzles, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Scott (Cindy) Sekutera of Grand Island; three grandchildren, Jace, MaCall, and Dax; brother, Wayne Lemburg of Grand Island, and sister, Kathy Meyer of Boelus. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom on July 27, 1994; brother, Larry Lemburg and sister, JoAnne Whitefoot.
