Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City.

Reverends Mark Maresh and Dave Rykwalder celebrated the Mass and were assisted by Deacon Phil Lukasiewicz.

Todd Wardyn and Mark Dwyer were the lectors.

Amy Kowalski was the pianist and Sonny and Bonnie Sekutera sang.

Selections included “Be Not Afraid,” “I Am the Bread of Life,” “Here I Am, Lord,” and “Lead Me, Lord.”

Ethan Goc, Mitch Jonak, Shawn Hruby, Jr., Brady Rasmussen, Garret Gearmont, Matt Schenk, Rick Stanczyk, Brian Hurt, Les Glinsmann, and Derek Sehi were the casket bearers.

Michael Goc, Tyson Goc, Paul Retzlaff, Mike Curlo, Brandon Tuma, and Travis Lemburg were the honorary bearers.

Burial followed at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Ashton, which is close to Goc’s farm. A meal followed the burial at the St. Francis Parish Hall in Ashton.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Catholic Church, Ashton Fire Department, or to the family for later designation.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the Goc family.

Mark was born on November 22, 1959, in St.

Paul, the son of James F. and Darlene M. (Kokes) Goc. He grew up on the family farm south of Ashton and attended Rockville Schools until the school closed. He then attended Loup City Public Schools and was a 1978 graduate of Loup City High School.

After graduating, Mark began farming with his father and also worked for other area farmers as a farmhand. He took over the family farm in 1989.

Mark was united in marriage to Sue Curlo on April 8, 1989, in Ashton.

The couple was blessed with three daughters and one son. Mark farmed and raised cattle the rest of his life.

He was a member of St.

Francis Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 5455, of which he was currently the Grand Knight and just recently became a 4th Degree Knight. He had served on the Rockville Fire Board for many years and had served on the Polish Heritage Center Board in Ashton.

Mark never met a stranger and loved talking to anyone and everyone. He was an expert marksman, was a great cook and baker, woodworker, and carpenter. He enjoyed refurbishing old farm equipment, tractor pulls, and golfing. Harvest was Mark’s favorite time of year and he always loved dancing with Sue and time spent with his four grandchildren.

Mark is survived by his wife, Sue of Ashton; children, Amelia and Mitch Jonak of Rockville, Erika and Shawn Hruby, Jr. of Loup City, Alexa and Brady Rasmussen of Rockville, and Ethan Goc and his fiancée, McKenna Siegel of Ashton; four grandchildren, Tenley, Rowan, and Leo Jonak and Lawson “Buck” Rasmussen; brothers, Michael Goc of St. Paul and Tyson and Steph Goc of Grand Island; in-laws, James and Jeanie Curlo of Ashton; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
